The other day I was exploring some new styles to add to my growing list of them to try in Midjourney and I came across Amigurumi. It got me curious when I saw the cute images generated using it.

It seems like I’ve done some amigurumi years ago when I created knitted and crocheted stuffed toys. I only did a few back then, but my sister has done several of them for her grandchildren

The word “amigurumi” is a combination of two Japanese words, “ami” meaning “crocheted or knitted” and “nulgurami” meaning “stuffed doll”. The practice dates back to 17th century Japan. Dutch knitting techniques influenced the style.

Amigurumi is a distinctive style which includes:

  • a tight, dense fabric holding its shape well, created with single crochet stitches
  • a plump, cuddle appearance, created by stuffing the finished toy with materials like fiberfill
  • adding simple, childlike features to the toy like large eyes, small noses and round faces

Having Some Fun in Midjourney

I thought I would explore this style but first I’d have a bit of other fun. I created some prompts of popular characters in unusual settings. Then I remixed the images and added “amigurumi style”.
