‘Puzzling’ from the verb ‘puzzle’ originated in the 16th century. No pun intended, but, it’s a puzzle where the word came from. While puzzles come in many forms, I’ve always enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. The first jigsaw puzzle was created in 1767 by John Spilsbury, a British engraver and mapmaker.
These days, with a mischievous feline in the house, I don’t attempt to do jigsaw puzzles. She would insist on ‘helping’ while the other cat would likely think the pieces were new toys to play with. I think you get the picture.
A social organization I’ve been involved in has a clubroom. It’s not a busy room, so we set the table up and spread out a puzzle for the members to assemble collectively. I was fascinated to watch some of the members, who were usually non-stop movement, be drawn to sit down and spend quiet time fitting some pieces into the puzzle. It really can be somewhat meditative.
I’ve often thought of a puzzle as an analogy to life. When we arrive from the creator, source energy, we do have a future purpose. I believe this to be why so many of us find…
