Challenge Met on the Hive Blockchain

In January I completed my first ever post all month since being on the Hive blockchain. This was a big deal for me. I’ll have been on the blockchain for six years in August.

I’d never done 30 days in a row on the blockchain or here on Medium. On Hive when you do every day of the month you pick up a badge to add to your posts if you want.

You also get a badge when you post every day from Monday to Sunday

The numbers on the top left show how many times I’ve earned the badge.

I Wandered Off the Consistency Track

I intended to continue into February but somehow that didn’t happen and then March was even less. Seemed I was wandering off course with my writing.

Around the end of March I happened into a Twitter Space hosted by @alessandrawhite and we got to talking in DM. She invited me to join her Creatives Work Hour.

The Creatives Work Hour

It’s an hour each day where everyone who is participating touches base for a few minutes. We state our intentions for the hour and then fall silent to work on the intentions or whatever squirrel happens to drag us away. Yep, they happen.

The HiveBloPoMo Challenge

About the same time, I came across @traciyork’s post about HiveBloPoMo Challenge to write at least one post a day for the month of April.

Hmmmm I thought… maybe I could combine the Creative Work Hour and this challenge to get my butt moving on writing more. Seems that idea worked.

Bringing Them Together Produced

As of April 30th I had published 32 posts containing 23,600 words. Most importantly, I published every day.

I didn’t do as well on Medium, I only published 24 posts but, that was more than I’ve done before.

I’ve written on a variety of topics but the last week or so the bulk of my posts have been building a guide for newbies getting started on the Hive blockchain.

Creating Content on the Blockchain Series

Creating Content on the Blockchain is being written to help newbies learn the basics of the blockchain. I’ve been shooting toward creating focused segments of about a five minute read each. This avoids overwhelm and lets the new person work their way through the posts at a pace that is manageable.

I’ve been posting the series here on Medium as well. I’ve created an index to the series which I’ll regularly update as more parts are added. You can find the index here.

There’s also a list for it BUT Medium adds to the list in the order of publication forcing you to scroll to the bottom to find the start. At least the posts are together. Would be nice to be able to pin the index to the top of the list.

How many parts is it going to be? I really don’t know. I started out thinking a three part would do the job. Saturday I published part 7, and will be working on part 8 today. There will be at least two more parts.

Sometimes Events Just Appear When They Need To

It’s been interesting as I’ve worked on the parts how related situations have arose that have served to remind me of details I’ve not covered but could be helpful information.

The day I was writing about how voting works, a downvote war broke out. I was so glad to see the post @dreemsteem wrote about rewards and downvoting. I linked to it so people could learn from it.

My Intentions For May

I’m going to try to carry on through the month of May with daily posting. I have some more things I want to write about once I think that the current series has run its course, for now.

I’ll also be putting out my weekly newsletter.

How’s your posting consistency doing?
